Description:
Abstract:
This GIS dataset comprises the linear landform features depicted on AGS Map 213, 'Quaternary Geology, Central Alberta'. These features include eskers, meltwater channels, moraines as well as features either parrallel to or transverse to ice movement direction (small ridges, elongated hummocks and depressions, flutes and drumlins).
Purpose:
To provide the quaternary geology of central Alberta at a regional scale for use in a geographic information system.
Supplemental Information:
In English. To be used in conjunction with other GIS files that make up the digital version of Map 213, including DIG 2007-0018, -0022, -0023, -0025.

Process Step:
Process Description:

1. Original mylars were scanned as tiff images

2. Tiff images were geo-referenced to 1:250000 digital base in 10TM NAD83 for to create geo-tiff. RMS errors were +/- 50m.

3. Geo-tiff images were vectorized and smoothed using the 'Gridline' command in Arc/Info with parameters 'Thin','Filter','Round','0.005 as Dangle' and '0.001 as Weed'. Line datasets were created.

4. Line datasets were combined to create complete polygon boundaries. Remaining linework and lines that were both polygon boundaries and linear surficial features such as channels were extracted to separate line coverage.

5. Linear features that were directionally significant such eskers were digitized in the direction indicated on the original map.

6. Feature descriptions were entered as attributes

7. Final plot was generated at the scale of 1:500k to check against the original map.

8. Line coverage was exported to shapefile.

Process Date: 2002
Process Step:
Process Description:
Corrected attribute spelling errors and dropped fields used for digitizing from attribute table. Added features previously captured as graphics to the shapefile (i.e. flutes and drumlins).
