The Battle Formation recently has been recognized as a potential source of the low alkali clay (<1.6 %) needed to produce low alkali cement. Exposures of the formation in central Alberta are evaluated as sites for further prospecting. Twelve localities between the Oldman River in the south and the Athabasca River in the north are recommended for further testing.
