Alberta is a prairie province located on the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains. Historically the province has experienced comparatively few earthquakes, especially when compared with areas that surround the Pacific Ocean. The earthquakes in Alberta have been very minor to moderate; usually so small that people don’t feel them. The largest magnitude earthquakes documented in Alberta were a 5.4 ML event felt near Dawson Creek (April 14, 2001) and a 4.9 ML earthquake near Snipe Lake (March 8, 1970). To our knowledge, there has been no recorded damage in Alberta from an earthquake.
