Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 multispectral data can be used to detect minerals in Alberta—e.g., ferric-iron-bearing minerals and hydrothermally altered rocks containing clay and alunite. Mineral abundance maps can be produced using spectral unmixing of hyperspectral or multispectral data based on the spectral shape (e.g., clay mineral band, carbonate bands, and iron bands) of mineral.
