The spring locations were digitized from the Alberta Hydrogeological Information Map Series. The springs were originally located on 1:50,000 map sheets on a Mylar overlay. The maps were in many cases folded, or where the area spread across two map sheets, the maps were taped together. Each map was registered using no less than 4 control points and up to a possible 8. A 0.002 RMS error was desirable; however, in some cases, the RMS was as high as 0.010. Each map was registered using the original projection of the map; i.e., UTM 11 or 12 NAD 27.
The springs from each map in a series were digitized into a coverage. All individual coverages for each zone were appended together to produce a temporary coverage for the corresponding zone. Both coverages were then projected from UTM 11 or 12 NAD 27 to 10TM NAD 83. These newly projected coverages were appended together to produce springs_pt_tm.shp. The ARCinfo 8.02 coverage was converted into an Arcview 3.2 shapefile with the same name. Attribute editing was completed in Arcview 3.2.
