This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of the Ray Lake Area (NTS 84D/NW) (GIS data, polygon features). The data were created in geodatabase format and output for public distribution in shapefile format.

These data comprise the polygon features of Alberta Geological Survey Map 557, Surficial Geology of the Ray Lake Area (NTS 84D/NW).

The digital vector data are contiguous, topologically correct polygons as built and enforced using ArcGIS software. Due to the availability of high-quality, LiDAR, bare-earth digital elevation model data (unpublished) for NTS 84D/NW, it was possible to delineate polygons and lines that would otherwise be unobservable.

Adjacent map areas have not been mapped using LiDAR; therefore, new feature boundaries have been identified in NTS 84D/NW that do not have a corresponding boundary in the adjacent study areas. Consequently, NTS 84D/NW is not fully edge-matched with adjacent areas.

Completeness Report:
We initially compiled the data for the entire study area through LiDAR interpretation and verified them by direct field observations of about 400 field sites distributed across the map area.

We estimate the accuracy of the surface feature interpretations to be better than +/- 100 m on the ground, based on informed judgement of the effects of all combined map-production errors. No formal accuracy check verified the interpretation; however, field site data provided control on interpretation. Site locations were measured with handheld GPS units, whose error is estimated at better than +/- 10 m on the ground.

2. digitizing polygons and line features across the LiDAR image of NTS 84D/NW using ArcGIS;

3. labelling spatial features;

5. proofreading the text.
