- Abstract:
- This is a raster dataset of the thickness of the Paskapoo Formation. It is a derived dataset created by the subtraction of the base of the Paskapoo Formation from the top of the formation, which in the western part of Alberta is also the bedrock topography. The gridded isopach data cover only the undeformed part of the Paskapoo Formation that extends west to the front ranges of the Rocky Mountains. The isopach data do not include those parts of the formation affected by tectonic folding or thrusting. The dataset is in ESRI ASCII grid format.

- Isopach values have inherent uncertainties due to generalizations regarding the modelled topography of both the bottom and top of the Paskapoo Formation. Modelled values may differ appreciably from thickness values calculated from point locations, such as in borehole logs.

- There are no duplicate locations as all data values in this raster dataset are assigned x-y locations by the modelling software. Null data are coded '-9999'. Isopach values cannot be less than '0'.

- We only modelled the undeformed part of the Paskapoo Formation, which lies east of the Rocky Mountain fold-and-thrust belt, in this dataset.

- We generated the Paskapoo Formation isopach dataset by subtracting the modelled base of the formation from the modelled top of the formation. The base of the formation was generated by computer interpolation methods of stratigraphic picks from oil and gas exploration geophysical logs. We derived the bedrock topography from previously published datasets generated by Alberta Geological Survey. We did not use thickness data from site-specific boreholes to create the isopach grid dataset.
