This dataset of land disturbances of Alberta is derived from selected Sentinel-2 multispectral datasets (10 m spatial resolution) captured annually from 2017 to 2020. Disturbances were detected through time-series comparison of the selected datasets, classified based on the time of first appearance on the landscape. Disturbances can be caused by a range of factors including forest harvesting, oil and gas activities, other infrastructure, wildfire, and insect defoliation. Disturbances due to agricultural activities were excluded from this dataset. This dataset can help with planning, managing, and monitoring of surface infrastructure, as well as contribute to improving the understanding of impacts on ecosystems and the environment. This is to be achieved through enhanced science-based monitoring for improved characterization of the environment and collection of the information necessary to understand cumulative effects.
