Digital Data 2019-0028

Author(s) Date 2020-01-23

This dataset contains information for 63 kimberlite and ultrabasic occurrences in Alberta. Data includes location, aerial extent, overburden depth, diamond content, number of micro and macro diamonds, and age. Data was extracted from four Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) publications (DIG 2004-0035, Geo-Note 2002-23, Open File Report 2012-01 and Bulletin 65). Locations were corrected from previous versions based on the original coordinates found in mineral assessment reports. The location of a kimberlite or ultrabasic intrusion or volcanic occurrence represents a generalized location for all drillhole intersections for that target.

This dataset was produced for AGS Map 590, Minerals of Alberta, and supersedes the existing compilation of known kimberlite and ultrabasic intrusion locations for Alberta (DIG 2004-0035). Additional occurrences such as the minette intrusions and volcanics in southern Alberta and four more occurrences in the Buffalo Head Hills area were added ((TQ-160, BE-01, BE-02 and BE-03).

This dataset is part of a package of data produced to support the creation of AGS Map 590, Minerals of Alberta. The package includes datasets of Prospective Areas for Mineral Exploration (DIG 2019-0025), Metallic Mineral Occurrences of Alberta (DIG 2019-0026), Industrial Mineral Occurrences of Alberta (DIG 2019-0027), Lithium Content in Groundwater and Formation Water in Alberta (DIG 2019-0029), references (txt), and a description of the methodology (Map 590 Information Document).
