This digital data release includes the results of portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) analysis of selected drillcore from the Alberta portions of the Athabasca Basin, Canadian Shield, and Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. The aim of this project was to generate a publicly available geochemical dataset that could foster interest in Alberta geology and mineral potential. The drillcore was chosen from the collections at the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Core Research Centre in Calgary and the AER / Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Mineral Core Research Facility in Edmonton. Selection was based on geospatial location, geological units intercepted, and commodity potential of each drillcore. The AER/AGS engaged Spectrum Geosciences Ltd. to undertake the pXRF analysis from October 2021 to March 2023. Over 20,000 metres of drillcore from 259 unique drillholes were analyzed by pXRF for 31 to 52 elements and oxides.
This work was completed under the Mineral Grant provided by the Government of Alberta dated June 22, 2021.
