Abstract

This map depicts a glacial landform generalisation based on the morphometry, proximity and parallel concordance of previously mapped glacial landforms into a series of spatially coherent ‘flowsets’. These enable a comprehensive large-scale reconstruction of ice sheet evolution associated with the advance and retreat of the Laurentide Ice Sheet in the Lower Athabasca and Clearwater regions of Alberta and Saskatchewan. This reconstruction utlizes a combination of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and 1-arc (30 m) Shuttle Radar Topography Mission digital elevation models, over an area of approximately 260,000 km2 in northeast Alberta and northwest Saskatchewan.

The distribution of previously mapped glacial landforms across Alberta and Saskatchewan is used to construct this map and accompanying geographic information system (GIS) database.

Explanatory notes and references are included that describe the methods used to define flowsets. A four-phase paleoglaciological reconstruction is also included.
