Abstract

This open file report provides preliminary findings from the review and analysis of earthquake events in central Alberta, spurred by the occurrence of two felt earthquake events near Red Deer in March 2018 and March 2019. Multiple analyses of collected seismic data the Duvernay East Shale Basin area have produced a better understanding of the seismotectonic conditions and suggest that the two felt events and other smaller clusters of events between 2014 and 2019 were induced by nearby hydraulic fracturing operations.
