The Mineral Occurrences of Alberta dataset is a compilation of metallic and industrial mineral occurrences of economic interest from a variety of sources including government reports, government data, mineral assessment reports, technical industry reports, and other publicly available sources. Mineral occurrences comprise selected field sites where geological, geochemical, or geophysical evidence suggests the existence of a mineral system. The occurrences are classified based on development stage and status into producers, past producers, projects with resource estimate, prospects, showings, and anomalies (geochemical, geophysical, or geological).
This dataset provides an update to the Metallic Mineral Occurrences of Alberta and Industrial Mineral Occurrences of Alberta datasets (AGS Digital Data 2019-0026 and 2019-0027) and merges them into a single data repository. Additional occurrences were added based on recent data and some of the historical records were updated. The occurrences described in this publication vary greatly in terms of commodity type, deposit type, and development stage. The mineral occurrence dataset was also restructured into a relational database with multiple linked tables using primary and foreign keys, enabling more efficient data manipulation and minimizing duplication. This publication includes a summary table that lists and describes all the mineral occurrences with additional information hosted in the other nine tables delivered in this release.
This work was completed under the Mineral Grant provided by the Government of Alberta on June 22, 2021.
