Abstract
Establishment of a fine-paper mill in Alberta requires a source of white mineral filler. The province lacks economic deposits of kaolin, the most common filler used, but has extensive deposits of limestone. White, filler-grade limestones can substitute for kaolin if suitable deposits can be located in Alberta. The objective of this study is to evaluate known limestone deposits in the province for potential use as paper coating/filler material and identify prospective occurrences for follow-up fieldwork and testing.
