Abstract

The Alberta Interactive Minerals Map (AIMM) is a web-based interactive application publicly available since 2015 and updated with new data in January 2021 and November 2025. It provides various mineral data and other relevant information to inform government, industry, and the public about mineral resources in Alberta. The map application allows users to visualize, explore, query, and filter minerals-related data of their own choice. The mineral data can be downloaded in different formats through the map interface directing users to the AGS Open Data Portal which features a subset of our GIS data for download.

In its most recent update, the AIMM application has undergone a major upgrade to enhance its functionality and accessibility. This update introduces newly updated mineral data layers, including lithium content in brines, helium concentrations from natural gas analyses, and expanded mineral occurrences. 
The application interface has been modernized using ArcGIS Experience Builder and the latest JavaScript software development kit, offering a more intuitive and responsive user experience. Users will benefit from improved navigation, updated layer thumbnails, and a new help guide to assist with interpretation.
Additionally, the update includes enhanced geoscience content such as aeromagnetic, geological, and geochemical data.

The most recent update was completed under the Mineral Grant provided by the Government of Alberta on June 22, 2021.
